Your wedding day is a big deal and once you’ve got through the nervous tension that comes with the ceremony and declaring your love for your other half for all the world to see, you just want to be able to sit back and relax.
The music at your reception can really set the tone for how the night will go down so making sure you have the right songs ready is key.
Here are five top tips to help you decide on which songs to go for.
1. Start With What You Know
Your favorite songs will be ones that you have listened to time and time again. By heading straight over to the music you own and checking out your ‘most listened to’ you’re setting yourself up for making sure your favorite songs are definitely in there. If you have songs that mean a lot to you and your partner then this will be the place to find them and you’re less likely to forget them.
2. Ask For Suggestions
It’s very common these days for invites to be sent out with a space for song requests. A really easy way to know you’re going to be making your guests happy, they will no doubt get over to the dance floor the second their choice starts blaring.
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you absolutely have to play everyone’s songs though, there’s every chance that you wont like some of the choices and as the day is all about you, you don’t need to worry about everyone else!
3. Mix In Plenty Of (Recognisable) Oldies
Nothing gets people singing and dancing better than the classics. Going for songs that everyone in the room will know (or at least some of the words) gives you a great chance of getting everyone up and bonding.
A top notch wedding DJ will do this automatically but asking for a few of the golden oldies will give them the confidence to slip in some more!
4. Go Mainstream for the Start of the Night
The best way to get everyone up and dancing is to use music that everyone knows. Even if you’re not into chart music these songs are impossible to avoid (and very catchy) so you’re bound to get people onto the dance floor straight away. Those first tentative dancers will just draw the crowds in nicely so getting a couple of people up is the key.
5. Don’t Forget The Ballads
People love a slow dance. A wedding is a romantic event and giving people the opportunity to sway slowly with the one that they love (or the one they found that night) is a memorable moment for everyone.
Picking the music for your reception should be a lot of fun so don’t fall into the trap of stressing out. Give yourself plenty of time and just enjoy it for what it is – fun!
